And I was like, "What?
Literally what?"
They chose me.
I mean, like the so many alumni have come through this show and it's just like the biggest honor to be picked out and thrown onto such a iconic stage in an iconic show and an iconic track.
Like it was just it was unbelievable.
[music] [singing] Just you.
What's your name, man?
Alexander [music] Hamilton.
I'm Ashley Merritt and I'm in the ensemble in the bullet track.
[music and singing] I first heard little inklings of Hamilton probably starting in like middle school.
So, I was 11 when Hamilton debuted, which is crazy.
But when I moved to New York to go to college here, that's when I saw it for the first time.
[music] And I think that was in September of 2021.
So I ended up dropping out.
And a week later, I actually ended up getting the call that I booked Hamilton, which is a crazy I it was insane.
I had no job lined up.
I had no housing.
I had no money.
And that's kind of how I got here.
I'm passely waiting.
I'm passionate to discussion.
Every expectation, every action is an act of creation.
I'm laughing in the face of Jes.
First of all, to be in a track that got named just by how iconic it is coro wise and staging wise is such an awesome thing and it's very rewarding as a dancer to have a big part in a show and feel like you're really moving the story forward.
especially being the bullet.
Literally taking a bullet out of a gun, passing it over Hamilton's head or being the reason that he gets shot.
There's just so many awesome little things [music] where you as a dancer sometimes you can feel like you're in the background and you're not a part of a story and specifically my track is such an important part of people dying, people living.
It's so awesome to to get to do that as a dancer.
mother without a father got a lot farther by working a lot harder by being a lot smarter by being the selfarter.
The story of Hamilton is basically following Hamilton from his youth all the way up until his death through his political affairs, his romantic affairs, his friendships with important characters, historical figures and all of the weavingings of people that he met and how that shaped the country.
[music] to be able to find new things every night, to be interacting with people that you love on stage.
I love this cast so much.
They are the funniest and most giving, generous people that I've ever worked with.
And it is such a joy to be on stage with them and have little moments with everyone, making eye contact, doing a little sneaky joke on the side or backstage.
I mean, it's been such a dream to to just experience it and be in the moment every single night.
Especially being the bullet.
I mean, like when you grab the bullet, it feels like I can feel the weight of the bullet almost every time that I do it every single night.
It's it's such an awesome thing.
And sometimes there's gasps in the audience and people scream.
It's like it's it's new every single night.
And it's such an awesome feeling.
We are Broadway.
