I think we just stumbled upon dad's vinyl collection.
He had this old acoustic guitar we found in the basement.
We grew up in Nebraska, spent, oh man, we were there for what, 20 years or so?
And ventured out to Portland, Oregon.
(audience cheers) -[Ty] I'm in Imperial, Nebraska, our hometown.
Just moved there really recently.
It's been nice.
It's quiet.
It's kind of different than what we're used to on tour.
When we moved out to the northwest, I think we were kind of a new sound out there.
(rock music) So everyone was super excited, and we were like, well we've been doing this the whole time.
You know, mandolins, suspenders, whatever was happening during that time.
- Yeah, you did have a suspender phase.
- I don't know why, but um.
- Easier than a belt sometimes.
-It just all, the timing of that was perfect.

It's the experience that you have with everybody.
-[Ty] I'm gonna have you clap in a little bit.
I don't want to start it too early 'cause it becomes this commitment, you know, and now your hands hurt, and you're like, when do we stop?
At the verse?
I don't know.
We're gonna get you.
-[Nick] We try to make it as intimate as possible, no matter how many people are there.
And we're all just hanging out, you know, singing songs together, and it's kind of an escape for a little bit.
♪ I never thought I would be the one ♪ The really cool part is we can play the same song over and over, but every time we play it, it's a different experience, and it's never the same.
♪ Oh, this will be long ♪ We love to create that atmosphere and just kind of be, just kind of be a part of it.
(guitar music) -[Ty] One thing we always say at the shows is as a joke, is we want to run people through all of their emotions.
So what we want to do now for the rest of the night, we have this, this formula, but we get sad a little bit, for just a little bit and then we send you home very happy.
Okay, that's the plan.
I just always want people to get home after a show like I do with some of my favorite artists, and I'm just like, whew.
Like I've felt everything, and now I can just sleep.
Like I thought about all these memories or that past relationship or anything like that and you kind of.
-[Nick] Changes you in a way.
It gives you something.
-Yeah.
- Gives you hope, inspires you in a way.
It just reaches you to a place, you know, that you don't get just in your ordinary day.
And to be able to be a part of that is, it's an amazing thing.

-[Chloe] I gotta do it loud though.
There's been many evolutions I would say, kind of 'cause we all grew up together.

- Okay, I feel like that should be loud and then we go.
- [Noah] Yeah.
I guess might sound a little strange, but it felt like we were three individuals kind of when we first started working as a trio, but now I feel like it's more, more one entity?
- Yeah.
- Kind of like marriage or something, you know?
I don't know.
♪ The colors were bright and vibrant ♪ ♪ Being yourself was such a breeze ♪ -[Noah] There is no interchangeable member of the Wildwoods.
♪ You're covering your ears ♪ ♪ Still it's too loud ♪ The Wildwoods have become 100% the three of us.
♪ You burnt out ex-poster child ♪ -[Chloe] Nice.
-[Noah] Yeah.
-[Chloe] Each of us wouldn't consider ourselves vocalists first, but we sing harmonies together, and that's like a big part of our music.
♪ Covering your ears, still it's too loud ♪ Well I feel like it's kind of always been, at least for Noah and I, I mean, I don't know, maybe you too, Andy.
Always liked the dream to be a full-time musician.
-[Andy] Yeah.
-[Chloe] Yeah?
Like that's just always been on our minds.
Like we're going to make this work somehow.

We're in business now.
-[Chloe] Noah, he's the main songwriter for The Wildwoods.
-[Noah] When I'm writing the music first, I'm kind of just fishing for lyrics a little bit, versus if I kind of have the lyrics laid out like it's a poem, it feels more, more meaningful.
And for some weird reason, that makes it a bit easier to put music to it.
(guitar music) -[Chloe] I get to add my own little things to his creation, which is really cool.
(guitar music) And after Andy's added a baseline to it, I'm like, whoa, that like completely transformed what I thought the song was gonna sound like.
(guitar music) -[Andy] Kind of like what Chloe was saying with Noah's aptitude for writing and arranging.
And I feel like it's something that I'll start to take for granted.
He will, you know, show us a song that he's working on and it's like, you know, just like this demo that sounds good enough to just like release on its own right now.

It was like I'm gonna be a musician and you know, make this as a career.
I wasn't really thinking like that.
And all the way from Denver, Colorado, get it up for my brother Marcello Sanchez on the drum.
(audience applauding) Well, my brother was playing the drums a long time, my older brother, so growing up, we kind of would play music together.
He showed me how to play some chords on the guitar and then I, it convinced my dad to buy me a guitar.
And I was learning some songs, like you know, trying to like learn Johnny Cash.
Started writing my own songs, like two, three chord songs and started just writing.
That's how I still today write music is I can't really sit down with a paper and write a song.
I have to come up with a melody and then just start singing.

I mean that's like therapy to anybody.
You just write a song and get it all out.
I try to write as honestly as I can.
I don't really write about just, you know, anything.
I like a lot of life stories and real stories that people can relate to.
The best feeling is when people can come up to me at a show and say that their one particular song like had a big impact on them.
And some of these songs are big impacts to people in completely different ways, which is amazing.
That's how just powerful music is.
