♪ [snappy music] ♪ From the early 1750s to his death in 1763, King Hagler was the Chief of the Catawba.
He was proud of his culture and looked to peacekeeping as a form of preserving the Catawba way of life.
At a time in history when colonists were settling nearby lands, King Hagler had a way of inducing friendship and sharing cultures.
Though he was lauded as peacekeeper, he was also known as a fierce warrior and a cunning leader.
King Hagler was the first Native American to be inducted into the South Carolina Hall of Fame in 2009.
