Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat rock music) It is fun and I'm never without something new to think about.
(upbeat rock music continues) Hello, I am Betty Ann Sayers Buzz Savories is my company.
[Reporter] Betty turned a bucket list interest in beekeeping into a business.
With Buzz Savories, she makes two different types of honey mustard, plus honey, and candles, selling products online and in stores, and creating TikTok videos to show different ways to use the mustard.
Today, we are making a luscious, simple, delicious chicken salad.
[Reporter] Buzz Savories wasn't Betty's first business.
Earlier, she launched and ran an online magazine called "Nebraska Rural Living."
She has a master's degree in human development and spent several decades in education and grant writing.
(upbeat rock music continues) Hi, my name is Zach.
Talk about identifying mentors.
I'm drawn to them, and they, to me.
It is curious that people that want to teach me something will come to me and suggest.
I have a son and he is possibly my very most precious mentor, because he puts me in tune with the law, as well as the strange things that happen and the future of my business.
Hi, my name is Justin.
How are you still developing as an innovator?
I don't think innovators are made.
I think innovators, it's in their DNA and I can't stop.
I think that innovators get sort of tired of the same thing or bored with it and if I have to do too much routine, then I'm thinking what am I gonna do next?
What am I gonna do to get out of this box?
Hey, I'm Selby and my question for you is how has your work evolved from the original idea?
The original idea was simply beekeeping and the original idea then was honey, but I didn't enjoy that.
I liked the beekeeping, but I didn't know how to do something creative with the honey, because it was not creative.
I thought what can I make that wouldn't be all sugary and sweet and dessert like?
And I came up with mustard, and then my neighbor next door was a critical care nurse and she helped me immensely.
When we would develop a recipe, she would write down the ounces and the millimeters and milliliters of everything, and so then when we finally came across a combination we liked that we thought was a good mustard, she had it all written down and then we could expand upon that, increase it, and that's the original mustard that we still use.
Hi, my name is Melanie.
What's the best advice for young innovators?
Just keep doing it.
I don't think there's any more advice.
You're an innovator, you will innovate and you will invent and you will try new things and you will feel the satisfaction of success.
Just keep learning and correcting yourself and trying the next thing and the next thing, 'cause you will be an innovator for the rest of your life.
