Every twenty minutes, an African elephant is killed for its tusks. The reason? Greed. Despite a 1989 international ban on ivory trade, the price of ivory on the black market is skyrocketing. Demand for ivory, largely in Asia, fuels the mass slaughter of elephants in Africa. Cashing in are organized crime syndicates, rebel groups, militias, insurgents and even terrorists.
